A survey of Middle Eastern history from the late eighteenth century to the present, intended to give students a deep historical understanding of today's problems and issues. The course focuses on teh role of Islam in Middle Eastern societies, the decline of traditional Islamic empires, European imperialism and cultural influences, Arab andTurkish nationalism, the Arab-Israel conflict, Islamic reform and revival movements, and the problem of terrorism.
