Macro Practice Elective. This course examines the economic problems of older people and an aging society. Specifically, it examines both individual and family aging, and discusses their relevance to the financial aspects of the "graying of America." It also (1) analyzes the basic elements of retirement income security in America, including Social security, employer pensions, and Medicare, as well as health and long term care costs, and (2) addresses issues of public responsibility versus individual responsibility for financial security. Finally, the course reviews and evaluates connections among financial and gerontological concepts, public policy issues, and social work practice. MACRO PRACTICE ELECTIVE
