History & Tradition Sector. All classes. Verkholantsev. This introductory course examines selected topics in the cultural and political history of Slavic peoples. Topics include: the origins and pre-history of the Slavs, Slavic languages and literary culture, religions of the Slavs (Orthodoxy, Catholicism, Protestantism, Islam), the origins of Slavic nationalism and Pan-Slavism and the formation of Eastern/Central Europe. The course combines lectures with discussions of literary texts in translation, film, music and art.
