The course examines new patterns of US relations with major Asian pin the post cold war period. Course materials draw heavily on declassified govgovernment policy-makers. The materials are a window into the world-view of decision-makers who need to make national security policy based on incomplete information about ambiguous threats. They reveal a great deal about the import of divergent historical and strategic perspectives in the foreign policy-making process.
