Staff. An introduction to the recent development of the system of higher education in the U.S. After reviewing alternative ways of classifying colleges and universities, the course will trace the growth in the number of colleges and universities, the functions they perform, and their fiscal operations over the last 20 years. Paralleling these developments will be analyses of trends in enrollments, college costs, and how students have financed these costs over the same period.
