Credits: 3 Prerequisites: CIE 323 Corequisites: None Type: LEC/REC Continuation of CIE 33, dealing primarily with analyzing and designing statically indeterminate structures. Topics include deflection calculations using the compatibility and moment distribution methods, an introduction to the stiffness method, and the design of steel beam columns. Introduces students to the use of general purpose structural analysis programs. Major part of the course is devoted to the term design project, which typically involves the modeling, loadings determination, analysis, assessment of safety and preparation of a technical report for an actual structure. Often involves the engineer of record for this structure in the project.
