Credits: 3 Prerequisites: None Corequisites: None Type: LEC Examines the variety of artistic achievements during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries in northern Europe, primarily in Flanders and Germany. The works discussed range from the intense mystical realism of Jan van Eyck and Roger van der Weyden to the classical idealism of Albrecht Durer and to the visionary imagery of Bosch and Bruegel. Emphasizes painting, but devotes some time also to the newly developing art of printmaking and the elaborate tradition of wooden figure sculpture. LEC
