Credits: 3 Prerequisites: permission of instructor Corequisites: None Type: LEC Involves field exploration of some of the most important cities of the ancient Maya. Together with the instructor, students visit the vast and mysterious ruins of ancient Maya: Tikal, Iximiché (Guatemala), Copan (Honduras), Tulum, Cobá, Chichén Itzá, Uxmal, Labná, Kabáh, Sayil, Dzibilchaltún, and Edzná (Mexico). Students meet and discuss recent investigations at these sites with Mexican and North American archaeologists who work in the Maya area. Important museums in Guatemala and Mérida are also visited, along with contemporary Maya communities.
