4 credits $35 MTH 101 Field-oriented course focusing on unique geology of the Michigan Basin. Emphasis on tectonic and climatic changes in Michigan's geologic past and the rock records and fossil assemblage representing these changes. Topics include formation of the Michigan Basin's unique structure. Field trips include Wallace limestone quarry, evaporite deposits in a Grand Rapids gypsum mine, sandstone ledges at Grand Ledge, Silver Lake sand dunes and regional Pleistocene glacial features.
