3 HOURS A survey of the history and literature of Western music from the Ancient Greeks through the Renaissance (900 BC-1699). The course stresses the development of musical styles, forms, and media through the study of representatives compositions and composers. Music, including examples related to non-Western cultures, is studied within the context of its social-cultural epoch. It is recommended that the student complete HUM 202 prior to enrolling in 331. (Fall, even years)
