Lecture, 3 hours; extra reading, 3 hours. Prerequisite(s): upper-division standing or consent of instructor. An analysis of some of the ethical issues that arise in and with regard to families of different kinds. Issues may include gender relations in "traditional marriages"; the ethics of samesexmarriage; the morality of abortion, surrogate mothering, and cloning; the justice of school vouchers; the grounds for universal health care; and possible gender inequalities in divorce. Cross-listed with PHIL 168. Fulfills the Humanities requirement for the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences.
