Lecture, 3 hours; extra reading, 3 hours. Prerequisite(s): PSYC 001, PSYC 002, PSYC 011, PSYC 012, and PSYC 132 with grades of "C-" or better. Surveys lesser-known sensorymechanisms and perceptual abilities of animals and humans. Topics include echolocation abilities of bats and porpoises; bionavigation in birds; electroreception in fish; pheromones in insects; and echolocation, lipreading, and pheromone sensitivity in humans. Emphasis is on cognitive, neurophysiological, and philosophical implications.
