Lecture, 3 hours; extra reading, 2 hours; written work, 1 hour. Prerequisite(s): PHIL 107 or PHIL 134 or consent of instructor. Examines a selected topic in philosophy of mind. Potential topics include consciousness and self-consciousness; intentionality and theories of mental content; mental causation; consciousness and free will; introspection and knowledge of other minds; perception; emotion; imagination; concepts and rationality; artificial minds; and animal minds. Course is repeatable as content changes to a maximum of 8 units. Credit is awarded for only one of PHIL 144 or PHIL 244.
