Lecture, 3 hours; screening, 3 hours. Prerequisite(s): none. An exploration of the concepts and development of the physical sciences through the medium of science fiction. This course is the first of three in a yearlong, multidisciplinary sequence that bridges the "two cultures" of scienceand the humanities. Students are encouraged, but not required, to take HASS 023B and HASS 023C. Credit is awarded for only one of HASS 023A or HNPG 037F. Fulfills the Humanities (Additional) or Literature requirement for the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, but not both.
