Lecture, 3 hours; extra reading, 3 hours. Prerequisite(s): upperdivision standing or consent of instructor. Provides students with a broad understanding of the rich and varied heritage and history of California Indians from the invasion of the Spanish to the twentieth century. Examines geographically and culturally diverse groups as a means of illustrating the various Euro-American Indian policies that affected native Californians. Course is comparative and thematic. Cross-listed with HISA 140. Fulfills the Humanities requirement for the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences.
