Analysis of the emergence and development of street gangs as a historical and contemporary phenomenon. Special emphasis is given to alternative conceptions, definitions, and theories of gang formation. The approach is comparative, focusing on African American, Asian American, Chicano, and White street gangs. Fulfills the Social Sciences requirement for the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences.
