Lecture, 3 hours; term paper, 3 hours. Prerequisite(s): EE 133 or consent of instructor; familiarity with MATLAB or equivalent and with basic matrix algebra is recommended. Presents the basic concepts of nanoelectronics with a focus on current flow through nanostructured devices. Topics include new paradigms of nanoelectronics, an atomistic view of electrical resistance, Schroedinger's equation, Coulomb blockade, basis functions, bandstructure, quantum capacitance, level broadening, and coherent transport.
