Explores the global carbon cycle and the origin and fate of organic carbon molecules throughout Earth's history. Covers production and composition of biogenic matter and microbial, chemical and thermal processing of sedimentary organic matter, leading to oil, gas and coal formation. Addresses important applications to the petroleum and environmental sectors.
