Seminar, 3 hours; individual study, 1 hour; extra reading, 1 hour; several short essays. As a survey of approaches to dancing and dance making, this course introduces students to dance technique, performance, and composition as fundamental components in the art of dance. Students will cultivate the ability to enact and remember patterns of rhythm, effort, and visual design in movement and will become acquainted with various procedures for organizing movement. Especially designed for students with no experience in dance.
