Lecture, 4 hours. Prerequisite(s): JPN 001 with a grade of "C-" or better or equivalent. An introduction to the sound system and grammar of Japanese with emphasis on speaking, reading, writing, and understanding. Classes are conducted in Japanese insofar as possible. Credit is awarded for only one of the JPN 001, JPN 002, and JPN 003 or JPN 010A and JPN 010B sequences.
