Prerequisite(s): BIOL 005A, BIOL 05LA, BIOL 005B, BIOL 005C, CHEM 001C or CHEM 01HC, MATH 009B or MATH 09HB; or consent of instructor. Introduces principles of ecology with emphasis on implications for the conservation of biodiversity. Topics include physiological ecology, organismal adaptations to the environment, life histories, the niche concept, population growth, interspecific interactions, and the structure and functioning of communities and ecosystems. Also covers topics in applied ecology and conservation biology. An optional related laboratory course, BIOL 116L, is available.
