Lecture, 3 hours; discussion, 1 hour. Prerequisite(s): BIOL 005C, CHEM 112C (BIOL 005C and CHEM 112C may be taken concurrently). An introduction to the chemistry and molecular biology of living organisms based on a study of the structure, function, and metabolism of small molecules and macromolecules of biological significance. Examines selected animals, plants, and microorganisms to develop a general understanding of structure-function relationships, enzyme action, regulation, bioenergetics, intermediary metabolism, and molecular biology. Credit is not awarded for BCH 100 if it has already been awarded for BCH 110A, BCH 110B, or BCH 110C.
