Prerequisite(s): BCH 100 with a grade of "C-" or better or BCH 110B with a grade of "C-" or better; BCH 184 with a grade of "C-" or better; or consent of instructor. Introduction to biological energy transduction. Describes the coupling of oxidative phosphorylation and photosynthesis to adenosine triphosphate (ATP) synthesis and the coupling of ATP hydrolysis to ion transport, chemotaxis, molecular motors, biomimetics, and other biological processes on the basis of recent structural and mechanistic studies of the protein complexes involved.
