Surveys the central problems and issues in the anthropological study of tourism. Main topics include the place of tourism in the global economy, the impact of tourism on cultural identity and culture change, environmental issues in tourism development, and tourism as a form of cross- and multicultural communication. Credit is awarded for only one of ANTH 119 or ANTH 280.
