Basic contributions of anthropology to the understanding of human behavior and culture and to the explanation of similarities and differences among human societies. The relevance of materials drawn from tribal and peasant cultures to problems of the modern world. Discussion sections stress the application of anthropological methods to research problems. Satisfactory (S) or No Credit (NC) grading is not available. Credit is awarded for only one of ANTH 001 or ANTH 001H.
