3 credit hours This course focuses on techniques used to maintain an open passage way between the atmosphere and the air sacs of the lungs. Techniques discussed include the use of minimally invasive devices as well as invasive endotracheal intubation and surgical tracheostomy. Various types of airway tubes will be discussed including oro-pharyngeal, naso-pharyngeal, laryngeal, endotracheal, and tracheal airways. Techniques used to assist a patient with airway clearance will be included.
