3 credit hours This course in contemporary issues examines the ways that science and technology have contributed to the concerns and issues confronting modern society. The varied topics to be studied depend upon the professor's expertise and current societal concerns. Such topics might include overpopulation, the depletion of the ozone layer, loss of biodiversity, environmental health risks, depletion of current resources, genetic engineering, and the development of alternate energy resources. The presentation of the topics provides the students with a foundation for the understanding of the complexity of the issues, possible responses and solutions.
