3 credit hours This course exposes students to recent United States historiography, with emphasis on the methods and skills of historical research and writing: defining a topic, finding and evaluating sources, context and interpretation, documentation, and writing. Students write at least two short (three page) papers and one major research paper (10-20 pages) that requires some use of primary sources. The guidelines for these papers are thoroughly discussed in class as part of the process of understanding and developing the skills and methods of history. Evaluations are based on style, form and content. This course is the department "W" course.
