3 credit hours This American heritage course examines the diversity of American music as found in its rich heritage of folk, ethnic, religious, jazz, popular and theatre traditions as well as European influences. Students learn to recognize and identify musical components of the distinct contributions of various cultures and the blending of these musical expressions into something new, vigorous and uniquely American. The American melting pot finds unique expression in music.
