4 credit hours This scientific literacy course presents the history of the earth as defined by plate tectonics, the evolution of the atmosphere, organic evolution, oceanography and, specifically, the development of the North American continent. Students examine their potential roles as scientifically literate citizens and understand the fragile nature of the world around them and the significance of their roles in sustaining that world. In the laboratory, particular emphasis is placed upon the scientific method.
