4 credit hours This scientific literacy course deals with the structures of the earth and the theories of volcanism, plate tectonics, weathering and soil, mass wasting, streams, glaciation, deserts, oceanography and earthquakes. The students examine their potential roles as scientifically literate citizens with responsibility for sustaining the earth. In the laboratory, particular emphasis is given to scientific methodology. Field trips enhance the students' understanding of the principles of geology and the need for a sustainable existence.
