3 credit hours This contemporary issues course focuses on identifying and understanding significant issues related to government programs and taxing schemes, including various viewpoints and arguments related to the issues, and evaluating potential ways in which the objectives of the programs can be met. Public finance is the field of economics that studies current and potential government activities and alternative means of financing government expenditures as they affect today's society. Topics discussed and analyzed include social security, welfare programs, health care, and the incidence and efficiency of income taxes and a value added tax.
