Students will study major texts of world literature in translation, from the Epic of Gilgamesh to such contemporary authors as Gabriel García Márquez. Readings represent a variety of literaryvoices, including those of women, minorities, and writers from the Third World countries. Particular attention is paid to each literary work's genre, theme, style, and aesthetics and to its cultural and historical context. Prerequisite(s): ENGL 203 or consent of instructor.
