Prerequisites: COS 479. This course provides a foundation in cryptography in an applied manner so that students can grasp its importance in relation to the rest of the information security field. The course covers topics such as principles of number theory; cryptographic algorithms; cryptanalysis; block and stream ciphers; secret key encryption (DES, AES. RC-n); primes and random numbers; factoring; discrete algorithms; public key encryption (RSA, Diffie-Hellman, elliptic curve cryptography); key management; hash functions (MD5, SHA-1, RIPEMD-160, HMAC); digital signatures; and certificates and authentication protocols.
