This course is an introduction to the paragenesis and crystal chemistry of minerals with emphasis on the rock-forming silicates. Laboratory periods will be devoted to the study of minerals in hand samples, as well as exercises designed to help the student understand physical and chemical properties of minerals. Three lectures and one three-hour laboratory per week. One weekend field trip will be required. Prerequisite: one semester of introductory chemistry (may be taken concurrently) or consent of instructor. Four Credits Pinan-Llamas Fall Semester, Even Years
