This is the study of the fossil record of the history of invertebrate life. Topics include changes in diversity during the Phanerozoic, tempo and mode of evolution, functional morphology, systematics, and paleoecology of the major invertebrate phyla. Three hours of lectures and one three-hour laboratory per week. One or more weekend field trips will be required. Prerequisite: consent of instructor.
