Description:

The aim of this course is to survey the intellectual, social and political traditions of the twenty nations of this hemisphere south of the Rio Grande. From this review it is hoped that the student might acquire an appreciation for a rich and colorful cultural tradition that is poorly understood and too often neglected by North Americans. A further and related purpose is to acquaint the student with the historical development of the political culture of Latin American societies and attempt to explain the causes of social and political instability in this area.
