Methods of teaching social studies at the secondary school level. While examining theoretical issues, this course will focus on the real world of teaching. As such, we will examine the complex role of the teacher as it pertains to curriculum, lesson planning, evaluation, and the dynamics of the classroom. Students will be expected to prepare and demonstrate various teaching models, and create lesson and unit plans based on the Michigan Content Standards and Benchmarks for Social Studies. In addition, students will be expected to research current issues and practices in the social studies and present those findings to the class. Three Credits Norkus Fall Semester
