The quantum description of matter is investigated by studying basic concepts of quantum mechanics, simple quantum models, atomic orbitals, molecular energy levels, spectroscopy, and chemical bonding. Lecture, 3 hours per week; discussion session, 1 hour per week. Prerequisites or corequisites: Chemistry 121, Mathematics 132, and Physics 122. Mathematics 231 and 232 are strongly recommended.
