This course is designed to provide pre-service elementary/middle school teachers a fundamental core or strategies to help them become effective mathematics teachers. It will provide perspectives on trends in mathematics education and the process of doing mathematics and develop the core ideas of learning, teaching, assessment and planning. It will focus on how children learn mathematics, and how to promote that learning through problem-solving, and the use of technology. It will also provide perspectives on teaching special children and on the history of mathematics. Prerequisites: Completion of 18 hours in the math minor for elementary Education. Typically Offered Fall Only, Even Years.
