College: College of Allied Health Department: Clinical Lab- Resp Care-Hlth Ad Credit Hours: 3 This course has a lecture with 2 hours. This course has a lab with 2 hours. This course examines the concepts of the design, evaluation, and use of interactive applications in health informatics. It will provide students with a solid foundation on matters that impact health informatics including privacy and confidentiality, information access and evaluations, systems selection and evaluation, health care terminology, data modeling, data warehouses, data mining, consumer health informatics, and hospital information systems. Hospital information systems and applications will be student including encoders, medical record tracking, abstracting, quality improvement, release of information, and specialized registries. Student must earn "C" (2.0) or better on first or second attempt. Two unsuccessful attempts (less than "C") will result in dismissal from health information management program. Prerequisites: ISYS 200, MRIS 293.Typically Offered Fall only.
