Alternating between a variety of issues affecting the American experience, this course helps students understand the significance of American literature and culture in their own lives. Each issue is studied from the social, historical, economic, and political perspectives that define it. Recent topics have included: the American work experience; the moral and ethical issues in American business literature; the wilderness in American experience; and American literary responses to the Vietnam War.
