Crosscultural comparison of legal systems past and present. Political, economic, and other underpinnings of various legal concepts. Symbolic and philosophical bases of social control. Examination of formal and informal means of conflict resolution, definition and treatment of deviancy and criminality. Interrelationship between morality, legality, and normative behavior. 4 hours lecture discussion. Prerequisite: ANT 102 or ANT 112 or permission of instructor.
