3 Semester Hours. (Also listed as HY 307 and JS 307.) This course examines the text of the nation's primary law and key decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court interpreting certain phrases. Organization and operation of the Court are also covered. This course focuses on separation of powers, federalism, interstate commerce, taxation, the contract clause and the takings clause. This course provides a foundation in American constitutionalism for students who plan to attend law school or teach social studies in the secondary schools.
