Focusing on the period before the European conquest, this course explores the art and archaeological record of South the Americas' aboriginal cultures and societies in sculpture, architecture, ceramics and paintings. The goal is to understand the aesthetics, philoso- phy and social historical and religious contexts of the visual arts and speak to the function of these artworks as ideological statements.
