Microbiology is the study of organisms and agents that are, in general, too small to be seen with the naked eye. As such, microbiology is a vast field, ranging from the study of cell structure and function, to the nature and control of infectious diseases, to microbial ecology and the beneficial use of microbes for food and industrial purposes. In Clinical Microbiology (BIO 318/318L) we will focus considerable attention on the study of bacteria and viruses that cause disease. This course is specifically designed for those interested in a career in the health care professions (e.g. nursing and pre-medical/pre-dental/pre-veterinary students). Prerequisites & Notes Adv Codes: NR Prereq: BIO 103, BIO 103L with grade C- or better Coreq: BIO 318L Recommended for pre-med, pre-vet and pre-dental minors.
