3 credits This course introduces students to the history of theatre and drama from the ancient Greeks to the Renaissance, with the focus on major periods of western drama and dramatic literature-the Greeks, Roman theatre and drama, Medieval theatre, Elizabethan drama, and Italian, Spanish, French, and English Neo Classicism. The selected readings are plays in their historical context with particular attention paid to examining the questions of "What is Theatre?" and "What does theatre do ?" Prerequisite: GLITR 600
