3 credits This course explores the use of art therapy to address the effects of trauma on the body, mind, and emotions. It focuses on the psychosocial aspects of trauma including cultural variables and secondary symptoms related to self and others. Students will study individual and group art therapy approaches from assessing risk and resilience to exploring symptom management, developing coping mechanisms, and rebuilding A meaningful life. The course also addresses countertransference and self-care issues for the therapist. Note: For students in the Expressive Therapies and Counseling and Psychology Divisions. Other students require permission of the instructor.
