3 credits This course studies the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the deliberations that surrounded these founding documents. Topics include how Americans in later generations debated the meaning of these documents for African-Americans and women, how the Constitution was amended to extend them equal rights, and how the founding principles apply to the twenty-first century.
