This course introduces the student to the basic pharmacologic concepts and principles related to the safe administration of therapeutic agents by nurses to clients of all ages. It is designed to facilitate the student's understanding of the mechanisms of drug actions and provide a safe approach to drug administration. Students learn major drug classifications and selected prototypes along with principles and techniques of safe, effective administration of drugs & other therapeutic agents, drug interactions, legal responsibilities and nursing considerations for specific drugs affecting all body systems.. By the end of the course, students must apply computation skills to demonstrate administration of drugs without error in order to successfully pass the course and progress in the nursing program. Prerequisite: Admission to the Nursing program.
